Editing the Divertor

A cleaner divertor pass in FusionTwin — tightening the geometry and preparing a cutout view so the interior actually becomes visible.

Back on the divertor today.

After the last pass exposed how thin our geometry really was, this round is about editing rather than adding — refining the target placement, cleaning up the way the divertor sits underneath the plasma, and making the whole assembly read as a single machine instead of a stack of rings.

The reactor is starting to feel coherent. Plasma, coils, vessel, and divertor all agree on where they are.

The problem now is that you cannot actually see any of it.

From the outside, FusionTwin looks like a beautiful cage. The copper coils and gold rings do their job a little too well — the most interesting parts of the machine are hidden inside the confinement structure that exists precisely to contain them.

Next: a cutout view

The next step is to add a cutout to the model.

The plan is to open a wedge of the reactor — remove a slice of the outer coils and vessel so the plasma core, divertor targets, and internal geometry are visible from outside. Think of it as a museum cross-section rather than a full teardown.

Goals for the cutout:

  • Make the plasma visible without hiding it behind coils.
  • Expose the divertor targets so their placement reads at a glance.
  • Preserve the sense that this is still one continuous machine, not an exploded diagram.
  • Keep it toggleable, so the reactor can be viewed whole or sectioned.

Once the cutout lands, the divertor work from the last note stops being abstract. You will be able to look inside and see exactly what we are arguing about.
